After you have worked through the learning material in each of the online modules and are ready to have your Advanced Life Support skills and knowledge assessed, you can register with us to achieve your ALS credentialing and gain your Advanced Life Support Certification.

Access your elearning program by clicking on “My Package”.  Once you are in your elearning program, click on the “Credentialing” tab in the navigation buttons on the left hand side.  The “Credentialing” page displays dates and times for you to have your competency assessment undertaken and sit your exam.

After you have selected a suitable date and time for your ALS credentialing to be undertaken, please phone our friendly Office Administration Staff to book in for your ALS Credentialing or email mail@hcts.com.au.

Upon successful completion of your ALS Competency assessment and passing a theoretical examination, you will have achieved your ALS credentialing and you will be awarded your Advanced Life Support Certificate at the conclusion of your assessment session.

You will now be required to continually review latest literature in resuscitation and continually practice the competencies you have achieved in order to maintain your skill level.  Most studies reveal that CPR skills deteriorate within six months after initial training.  It is advised by the Australian Resuscitation Council that you should undergo a recertification of your status at least annually.  Therefore we recommend refresher training is to be undertaken at least every twelve (12) months from your current certification date.

There is emerging evidence that frequent manikin-based refresher training in the form of in-situ training may save cost, reduce the total time for retraining, and is preferred by the learners.  Following the completion of some ALS courses the organisations’ state the certificate is valid for a period of up to4 years, however this validity is dependent on the holder undertaking regular updates on resuscitation.  If you are required to respond to a cardiac arrest situation then you need to maintain your competence in the knowledge and skills necessary to perform effectively.  Cardiac arrests are infrequent events and we need a process in place to maintain up-to-date best practice in this area.  Each of us has a duty of care to respond appropriately should a patient deteriorate.  The optimal time for retraining however has not been determined.  ANZCOR Guideline 11.6, 2016; Monsieurs et al, 2015, p 5 & 57
