You now have full access to all areas of the elearning site including current, comprehensive information, advanced life support algorithm, review questions, practice exams and a number of video demonstrations and simulations, all designed to enhance your knowledge and skill level in advanced life support practice. I am sure you will find this site informative and most helpful.
Use the navigation buttons to work your way through the different learning modules. You can tailor your learning to suit yourself. You choose which topics you wish to study and study at your own pace. You can also review each module as often as you like.
To help you keep track of your progress through the elearning program, print out the check list on this page and tick off each subject area as you complete it, or make a note to review a subject area again, should you need to, before completing your competency assessment and theory exam. Click on the link below to download the pdf file, print the sheet and maintain a record of your study as you progress through your learning by checking off the appropriate boxes. This sheet will also be a record of your continuing professional development (CPD) hours of learning you have completed. If this is your first Paediatric Advanced Life Support course, it is estimated it will take approximately 7½ to 9½ hours to progress through each of the learning modules, depending on your current knowledge level and previous clinical experience, earning you 7½ to 9½ Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours. If you are completing your PALS Recertification training, it is anticipated it will take you approximately 4½ to 5½ hours to complete the learning modules, thus earning you 4½ to 5½ CPD hours.
You will find a number of videos demonstrating various advanced life support procedures and techniques in the video section as well as embedded within the specific subject areas. In addition, there are real time simulation videos demonstrating the management of cardiac arrest scenarios. It may be helpful to watch the scenario videos a few times prior to completing your annual PALS competency assessment. To assist you to prepare for your theory exam, there are practice examination papers for you to complete in the Practice Exams section.
When you are ready to have your paediatric advanced life support credentialing completed, simply click on to the Credentialing tab. On the Credentialing page you will see available dates and information on how to book for your competency assessment and theory examination to be completed if you should require this. For in-house assessments please speak with your Staff Development Manager.
Paediatric Advanced Life Support (ALS) includes the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to provide the most effective early management of cardiopulmonary arrest for infants and children. This also includes early recognition and efficient management of situations likely to proceed to cardiac arrest as well as effective management of the infant or child in the period following a successful resuscitation outcome.
This program is consistent with both the ANZCOR guidelines and International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) guidelines, and reflects the Consensus on Resuscitation Science and Treatment Recommendations (CoSTR) for evidence based practice in resuscitation.
